For You by Kim Addonizio

You know, if I actually made statements in my blog about how low my poetry file was in order to elicit suggestions from readers, my behavior might be considered shameless. (HA!) Thank you again to my poetry buddy for never failing to come to my rescue, especially when he sends something by Kim Addonizio!

For You
By Kim Addonizio

For you I undress down to the sheaths of my nerves.
I remove my jewelry and set it on the nightstand,
I unhook my ribs, spread my lungs flat on a chair.
I dissolve like a remedy in water, in wine.
I spill without staining, and leave without stirring the air.
I do it for love. For love, I disappear.

I love the unhooking of the ribs, I love darkness in poetry.

Oh and for the low poetry stocks:
    Nightfall - Herbert Asquith
    From a Flemish Graveyeard - I.A. Williams
    Mad - Wilfred Gibson
In The Ambulance - Wilfred Gibson
    Sunsets - Richard Aldington
Dead Cow Farm - Robert Graves
To My Daughter Betty - T.M. Kettle (it was written 4 days before his death in action, 1916)

I know that most are quite dark, but my guy friend in England sent me a book of poetry from wars. It’s called Up the Line to Death. It’s really good if you ever need a new poetry book to look through :)
Oh and if you can’t find the some of the poems let me know and I’d be happy to type them up, most of the suggested aren’t too long.

Here is an online link to a collection:
    a compendium of poetry
    compiled by ted and ween
A few years ago, my best friend, Ted, and I decided to assemble an on-line collection of some of our favorite poems.
