There’s a certain Slant of light by Emily Dickinson

I came across this poem today and realized I hadn’t shared anything of Miss Emily’s lately, and I had never posted this poem. Perfect!

There’s a certain Slant of light
By Emily Dickinson

There’s a certain Slant of light,
Winter Afternoons—
That oppresses, like the Heft
Of Cathedral Tunes—

Heavenly Hurt, it gives us—
We can find no scar,
But internal difference,
Where the Meanings, are—

None may teach it—Any—
‘Tis the Seal Despair—
An imperial affliction
Sent us of the Air—

When it comes, the Landscape listens—
Shadows—hold their breath—
When it goes, ’tis like the Distance
On the look of Death—

I just want to say thanks and happy holidays, as a fan of Adrienne Rich and Edna St. Vincent Millay:)

I enjoy Emily Dickinson - and this is a great poem.

    I like this site.

May I recommend Emma Howell?- a young poet who tragically died at age 20 in Costa Rica. She wrote A Certain Slant of Light-
